Sample Reading 3

What you can expect from each full six line Gypsy Tarot Reading:

Meanings of all cards followed by my personal interpretation of the reading.

I am able to read tarot cards from a distance. All I have to know is that you are thinking about those things that I ask you to think about as I shuffle the cards for you.

Those questions will be:

  1. Think about an incidence that happened in the past six months, those people that were involved in the incident and how they related to the incident and to each other. There are a couple of reasons why we limit it to 6 months into the past and therefore does not go more than 6 months into the future. It is not good to have this reading done more than 6 months at a time.
  2. Think about a question you want an answer to but please don't tell me what it is. Think of all the people involved in your question and how they relate to your question and  to you.
  3. Think about what you wish to happen so far as your question is concerned. Again, think about all the people involved and how they related to your wishes.

Your part is done. I will deal the cards out at my end and compose the reading in an email for you. It will look something like this:

Past Line

The first thing I look for in a line is an abundance of Major Arcana cards in a line and there are three in this Line. The High Priestess reversed, the Star and the Wheel of Fortune reversed. This means that someone has made a decision that has affected how you will make your future decisions. The next thing I look for is the people. The Knight of Wands reversed signifies your son, the King of Cups, his dad. His dad seems to want to give the boy recognition for something that your son has done but does not want you to know about this. Do you think that he may have paid or lent him the money for the ATV? He is a good man and may feel a little guilty about doing this behind your back. I believe what the cards are saying is that you should have used your intuition to see there was something going on that you need to be aware of. The whole situation is spurring growth though and you might want to look at it as a good thing. If your son was not doing well, the support he felt from his dad is a good thing and soon things will turn around for him. Stay calm and let things run their course.

1st Card - Knight of Wands Reversed

Volatile, Impetuous Youth

The Knight of Wands reversed indicates a youth’s volatile and impetuous tendencies that lead to pointless upheavals and disruptions. There is unsettledness about the youth represented by this card.

2nd Card - Six of Wands

Achievement and Recognition

Success comes after hard work. The achievement is usually exemplary in some manner and recognized by others. This card can indicate prizes and awards or an exciting win in some area of importance to the questioner.

3rd Card - King of Cups

Man Who is a Philanthropist

Here is a man who cares and is emotionally engaged in his world through compassion and human service, possibly a deeply spiritual or religious man. He seeks to contribute to the greater good and is guided by conscience and feeling.

4th Card - Ten of Wands

Burdens and Oppressive Conditions

The Ten of Wands describes oppressive conditions and a person burdened and overwhelmed by responsibility. This person deals with more than he or she can realistically cope with and is experiencing mental and physical strain.

5th Card II - The High Priestess Reversed

Failure to Listen to the Inner Voice

The High Priestess is a classical feminine figure representing the gateway to the knowledge possessed by the Magician. In Judaism she is Shekinah, and Sophia to the Greeks. In the postmodern West, the High Priestess serves as a personification of hidden knowledge and intuition. She sits between two pillars, one black, representing evil, and one white, representing good, and holds a scroll that contains valuable information about both, and since she knows both, she can speak the truth.

Reversed, the High Priestess shows problems and complications arising from the failure to hear the inner voice. She describes situations in which people are in doubt and second guess themselves too much, trusting in the opinion of others more than their own gut feelings.

6th Card - XVII - The Star

New Hope For Successful Plans

Waite specifically refers to the star illustrated on the seventeenth trump card as the “Dog Star,” which is an ancient Egyptian appellation for Sirius – the brightest star in the night sky. The star was especially important to the Egyptians, who marked time in the annual cycles of planting and harvesting by the position of Sirius. In fact, as far back as 3000 B.C., the Egyptian calendar year started on the day Sirius rose just before the sun – an event that signaled the annual flooding of the Nile. Thus, the significance of the Star in conventional tarot interpretation is renewal.

The Star signals new hope for successful plans and ideas. Cycles of decay and destruction have ended, and a new cycle begins. The environment supports growth, and what is sown anew will surely begin to grow now.

7th Card - X - The Wheel of Fortune Reversed

Wait for Better Times

The Wheel of Fortune was a favorite Renaissance motif that described changes of fortune, most particularly the fortune of courtiers who depended upon the patronage of the aristocracy for survival.

The axiom of the wheel read: he who is up one day is apt to be down the next. Courtiers were very competitive. Today, the image endures as an icon for continuous change: the wheels of life are constantly turning, and change is constant.

When reversed, the Wheel of Fortune says there is no choice but to wait for better times. The wish list may be long, but progress comes in fits and starts, demanding patience to wait until the timing is better for smooth sailing.

General Atmosphere Line

The person that is making decisions that will affect how you made your is slow in making decisions. I think that you might be considering a relationship with someone. I see two new starts that are connected to each other. The one is new start money wise and represents new material awareness and it is even possible that you are receiving a windfall of some kind. If the money is spent wisely it will bring you to a good place in life. The other new start will not bring you happiness, nor will it bring growth. Someone cannot, will not take accountability associated with the lack of growth and I believe this is causing you grief. There is a mystery that is involved in this and is just now starting to become clear. I know that you want that relationship to work out and you might want to see it as a good one but he is a miserly type. If he is cheap with his money, he is cheap with his emotions.

1st Card - XX – Judgement Reversed

Inability to Be Accountable

The Judgement card is a visual depiction of events described in the New Testament book of Revelation. These events concern the day of final judgment before the end of the world, as envisioned by John, who saw “the seas gave up its dead”; and indeed, the dead are seen rising from the sea in background of Waite’s design of this card. He is faithful to the Biblical description of the final judgment, but he contends that its meaning lies in realms far beyond literal Biblical interpretation

Reversed, shows difficulties arising from inability to be accountable for the consequences of one’s own actions. Failure to take responsibility and own one’s own problems results in conflict and losses.

2nd Card - Ace of Pentacles

New Material Awareness

The Ace of Pentacles signifies the arrival of funds such as a gift, an inheritance, or a windfall of some kind. The money is saved or spent wisely, perhaps on a venture or to purchase a new home, depending on the adjoining cards.

3rd Card - Ace of Wands Reversed

Setback in New Plans

The Ace of Wands reversed indicates setbacks in making headway on new plans. A lack of determination in organization, funds, or human resources may slow or stop the new project altogether. Check the surrounding cards to look for the nature of the blockage.

4th Card - Four of Swords

Rest and Stillness

This card shows the need for recuperation after a period of illness or extreme emotional strain. This is a time to regroup and gather strength before proceeding.

5th Card  - XVIII - The Moon Reversed

A Slow Dawning Realization of the Truth

Just as the light of the moon is but a dim reflection of the brilliance of the sun, our own thoughts and feelings often amount to little more than a confused and blurred reflection of what we imagine is the truth. Sometimes, we cannot see things clearly at all, and like the hound and the wolf that bay at the moon, we find ourselves driven by impulses, thoughts, and feelings we barely understand. Like the tides of the ocean ruled by the moon, these feelings rise and engulf us in confusion, apprehension, and dark fears.

Reversed, The Moon shows the slow, dawning realization of the truth about some matter of personal importance. Confusion and intensity of feeling prompt the questioner to dig deeper, look past appearances, and arrive at some meaningful understanding of the situation. There is perhaps a nagging sense that all is not as it appears.

6th Card - VI - The Lovers

Relationships

When pledges are honored, there is union, and the Lovers card signifies a joining of two primary polar forces: man and woman. The Waite-Smith design draws on traditional Biblical imagery of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, but beyond the most obvious indication of sexual unity between man and woman, this card holds a subtler and compelling metaphor about the world of opposites in which we all live. There is night and day, winter and summer, hot and cold, good and bad, yes and no, black and white, and neutrons and protons. The interplay of polar forces shapes our world at every level.

The Lovers card typically does describe the coming together of a man and a woman in a romantic or conjugal bond, but it also speaks of the balance between any two opposing forces; thus, it is also descriptive of general harmony, balance, and peace. It is traditional to think of this card as a sign of love and romance. More often than not, it indicates such, but in a broader sense, it can also be a sign of equilibrium and balance.

7th Card - Four of Pentacles

Greed and Miserliness

The Four of Pentacles indicates a shortcoming attached to material affairs. When someone becomes tightfisted, their emotional growth is inhibited and, over time, stunted. This card could mean that someone attempts to control another with the use of money.

Outer Influences Line

You may not know what is going on because it is going on in the background of your life. There are three people in this line. At the beginning of the line young person (teenager) who is supportive of a rebellious child. At the other end of the line is a woman who has turned on you, she is not supportive of you but is not saying anything. She is not to be trusted. You must spend some time figuring out who she is. You are venerable and unless you figure out who she is, she is in the position to attack you. This woman is a coward and is hiding from you. There are all kinds of small problems with this woman that must be faced and over come so that things turn out the right way for you.

1st Card - Knight of Swords

Intelligent, Assertive Youth

Here is a young power player gifted with considerable mental agility and strategic insight. Youths represented by this card know what they want and assertively attend to get it.

2nd Card - Page of Pentacles Reversed

A Immature, Rebellious Child

The Page of Pentacles reversed reveals a child whose immaturity is expressed through rebelliousness, scattered energy, and unreasonable actions.

3rd Card - Nine of Wands Reversed

Failure to Protect and Defend Oneself

The Nine of Wands reversed indicates a failure to protect and defend oneself against adversity and attack. At best, this card shows vulnerability.

4th Card - XIV – Temperance Reversed

Excess and Imbalance

Temperance is the fourth card of the cardinal virtue set included in the parade of trumps. The iconography is highly traditional, showing a figure mixing water with wine for sobriety. However, sobriety has meanings that go beyond the commonplace usage of the term denoting not drunk. A great many choices and actions in life demand clear thinking and a sober respect for the gravity of the matter. Sobriety means awake and aware.

Reversed, this card shows excess and imbalance, perhaps even a loss of temper due to pressure, anxiety, emotionalism, drunkenness, or anything that sets healthy equilibrium off kilter. Introspection is required to find a direction.

5th Card - VII – Strength Reversed

Inner Struggles, Lack of Self Control

The Strength card is one of the four cardinal virtues represented in the tarot deck. The Waite-Smith design engages the classical Renaissance personification of this virtue as a person with strength greater than the jaws of a lion.

When reversed, the Strength card reveals inner struggles, conflicts of conscience, or simply a lack of self-control. It can also show a weakness of will and surrender to temptations, leading to trouble. Acts of cowardice are also denoted.

6th Card - Seven of Wands Reversed

String of Small Problems Must Be Resolved

The Seven of Wands reversed shows that a string of small problems must be faced and resolved to avoid awkward situations that result in loss of integrity. It may already be too late in that trust of a person may be in question.

7th Card - Queen of Wands Reversed

Woman Who Cannot be Trusted

The Queen of Wands reversed shows faithlessness and infidelity in marriage. Dealing with this woman brings to the fore questions of trust. She is not always as she appears and will turn when she does not get her own way.

Present Line

The woman that I spoke about in the Outer Influences line will show her true colors if she has not done this already. You have the power to overcome what is happening and have the courage to stand up against her. Do not take any advice she is giving you. Walk away from her. She may be enacting vengeance towards what she believes you have done to her. She is jealous and does not care about you. By walking away from her, you will find the peace you are looking for in your life and you will become so much more balanced. Just understand that she is trying to gain at your expense. She will lie and try to deceive you and will abuse you if you let her. Walk away. There is a hint that you will be better off financially business wise so she may have been associated somehow with a business venture. Does drinking alcohol or drugs have something to do with this? Leave it behind you if it does. If the law is involved somehow with this, brace yourself.

1st Card - Ten of Swords Reversed

Power and Resolve to Rise Above Defeating Circumstances

The Ten of Swords reversed indicates power and resolve to rise above defeating circumstances. There is courage and confidence to stand up against the untoward interference and malice of others.

2nd Card - Queen of Swords Reversed

Cruel and Dangerous Woman

The Queen of Swords Reversed shows a cruel and dangerous woman governed by willfulness and intolerance. Vengeance is her specialty, and her retributions are harsh. Easily roused by jealousy and often sharp-tongued, she will strike where it hurts the most without apology or remorse.

3rd Card - Six of Swords

Journey to Inner Peace

There could be a trip in store, but the journey is just as likely to be an inner journey of personal growth and discovery. Through conscious choice, there is an effort to overcome lethargy and listlessness and strike a better inner balance.

4th Card  - Five of Swords

Hostile Deceit

Selfishness and arrogance, devoid of conscience or care, compels an individual to seek gain at another’s expense. There may be open hostility and willful cheating perpetuated through lies and trickery. This card speaks of viciousness and abuse.

5th Card - Two of Pentacles Reversed

Reprieve from Financial Strain

Reversed, this card shows some reprieve from financial strain in a business affair. Material problems decline and a period of stability ensues, but there can be complications through letters and official documents.

6th Card - Three of Cups Reversed

Excess Physical Celebration

The Three of Cups reversed warns of excess physical celebration, perhaps eating or drinking in excess, and if the action continues, it can lead to physical exhaustion or even ill health. People use the type of pleasure found here as an escape, the results which are crippling to any relationship.

7th Card - IV- The Emperor Reversed

Conflict with Power and Authority

The Emperor sits on a massive throne set high above a river. The Emperor commands the heights and sits solid and firm in his place of power. The long white beard and long gray hair conjure images of Moses and the Biblical patriarchs decreed to rule by God’s own word. The Emperor describes traditional masculine power; he is the father, the ruler, and God’s own representative in the realm he rules. His authority is absolute and binding.

Reversed, the Emperor speaks of conflict with power and authority or an individual who is overbearing and controlling. It can also mean that the questioner is living in conditions of tyranny. Freedom of movement is hampered by the control of another.

Possibilities for the Future Line

At the beginning of the line is a woman who is a passive martyr. This is likely the woman we see in the previous two lines. She pretends to care but she does not. She may have an irrational outburst and try underhanded tricks to manipulate you. She does not always think clearly. If this happens, she will cause all kinds of small problems for you: delays, glitches, complications and perhaps legal troubles. Try to remain calm and not get angry. Somehow a child is involved in all of this but it does not say how. If the relationship you were hoping for ends, you will be able to move forward. You may feel the sudden disaster that all this causes is terrible for it really for the best. I am not sure how the man is tied to all of this and may be an indication that you may meet someone else. He is a smart man with an analytical mind and will be in the position to help you.

1st Card - Queen of Cups Reversed

Woman is a Passive Martyr

The woman the Queen of Cups reversed represents a passive martyr who controls others by pretense of care. Emotionalism runs high and often leads to irrational outbursts and underhanded tricks of emotional manipulation. Because her first language is feeling, she does not always think clearly.

2nd Card - Five of Wands Reversed

Disagreements and Pointless Struggles

The Five of Wands reversed shows disagreements and pointless struggles that seem to be never-ending. There is weariness and discouragement attached to a cycle of glitches, delays, and complications wrought by legal difficulties, bureaucratic bungles, and trying people.

3rd Card - Eight of Wands Reversed

Goals are Hampered and Frustrated

The Eight of Wands reversed indicates that goals are hampered and frustrated, perhaps as a consequence of using too much force too soon. Anger could be an outcome, and jealousy a cross to bear. Disputes and quarrels are also signified.

4th Card - Page of Wands Reversed

Restless Child and Hasty Actions

The Page of Wands reversed accentuates the restless tendencies of the child described by this card and indicates trouble through hasty actions.

5th Card - Three of Swords Reversed

Turmoil in a Relationship is Decreasing

The card reversed shows that the agony resulting from the turmoil in a relationship is decreasing and that the excruciating pain experienced by grieving is past its most critical stage. Both involved in a relationship can now move forward with their lives.

6th Card - XVI- The Tower

Catastrophe

The emotional impact of the dramatic event depicted in Waite’s Tower card is immediate and shocking. Clearly, something has gone very wrong. A towering edifice topped by a gold regal crown is struck by lightning. The crown of the tower falls away, and flames descend, scattering people who fall haplessly through dense clouds of smoke. As an allusion to the story of Babel in the Book of Genesis, there is a universal teaching that warns of the risks of arrogance. People who live at lofty heights have a long way to fall down when they discover the limits of their own power. The awakening can be especially brutal for those who believe they are impervious and above the rest.

As the image suggests, the Tower card means catastrophe and sudden changes. The old order of life is breaking apart, and the questioner may well be in shock because these changes occur so suddenly without warning. This card denotes disruptions and unsettling shifts of circumstance. Sometimes, there is a bitter pill to swallow in the discovery that what was taken for granted, be it a relationship, a job, or even the truth of one’s own self was an illusion born of vanity and self-deception.

7th Card - King of Swords

A Man Who is an Authority Figure

Here is a man who wields considerable power and authority, often through the professions. He is beyond reproach and has a private corner in some areas of specialized knowledge. This is a man in charge, endowed with a formidable will and a sharp analytical mind.

The Future Line

A disappointment will be coming soon. I see an ending of great importance to you but it will be you that will walk away. You will be the one that ends this and there will be something left. Please know that you are doing this for the best. By ending this, a new beginning is now possible. Release this and be open to new possibilities. You will be tempted to do what is morally wrong but don’t give into temptation. You will find a great sense of relief when you do what is right and you both can find a new direction is possible for both of you. You may start a relationship with someone that you already know and it will be a pleasant one. This relationship will be based on common interests and shared passion. Your hard work will pay off within the next six months. Take stock of it and find a direction for your future.

1st Card  - Nine of Cups Reversed

Overindulgence in Food or Drink

The Nine of Cups reversed shows satisfaction coming from overindulgence in food or drink. This could be in compensation for a disappointment. Dreams are frustrated here, and the cup is seen as half empty.

2nd Card  - Eight of Cups

Resignation and Acceptance Brings Closure

Resignation and acceptance of endings finally bring release from the sorrows of the past. This card signifies letting go and moving on after a period of despair and disappointment. It can also mean letting go of materialism and moving on to spiritualism in search of a deeper meaning in life.

3rd Card - XII – Death

Endings and Perhaps New Beginnings

The stark image of the Grim Reaper riding his high white horse over kings, pontiffs, and children alike is perhaps one of the most startling images of the Waite pack. But all is not what it seems: on the right-hand side of the card, an area designated east by map- making conventions, the sun rises between two pillars. It is morning, and from this, we understand that with death comes a new day. One situation ends, and in its wake, a new one begins. The card portrays the life/death/life cycles that result in the eternal renewal of nature. That which dies gives way to new life.

It tends to strike a note of terror, but the Death card in reading most usually signifies an ending that makes way for a new beginning. There can be sudden and drastic changes in home, marriage, work, lifestyle, and possibly even spiritual awareness, but the changes are ultimately for the best. Old circumstances die away, and in their wake, new ones arise.

4th Card  - V - The Hierophant Reversed

Inability to Live Up To Agreements

The Hierophant depicted on the Rider-Smith design is clearly an image of the Catholic Pope, as evidenced by the garments, the crosses, the hand raised in benediction, and most especially, the crossed keys in the foreground, which serve as a traditional emblem of papal office. The most basic meaning inferred from this card is – church. The church is the traditional social setting of important occasions, such as baptisms, marriages, and funerals. Church is also where oaths and promises are uttered, and people are expected to conform and do the right thing.

Reversed, the Hierophant can indicate an inability to live up to agreements, illegitimate arrangements, or failure to do what is conventionally expected. It can also show a failure to reach an agreement among disparate parties, sparking disputes and broken alliances.

5th Card - Two of Swords Reversed

Two People Find A Direction in Their Relationship

The Two of Swords reversed shows a sense of relief and release of tension as two people find direction in their relationship. A period of stalemate ends, but the new sense of direction is dubious and fraught with danger. Choices made under pressure can lead to more difficulties.

6th Card - Two of Cups

Harmony, Peace and Commitment

The Two of Cups describes a committed bond between two people. The relationship is usually romantic, showing a new love or a loving reconciliation. The card can also represent different kinds of partnerships but always relationships founded on common interests and shared passion.

7th Card - Seven of Pentacles

Hard work and persistent effort have paid off, bringing satisfactory material rewards. Now is the time to stop and take stock of the situation before jumping into action again.
