Sample Reading 1
What you can expect from each full six line Gypsy Tarot Reading:
Meanings of all cards followed by my personal interpretation of the reading.
I am able to read tarot cards from a distance. All I have to know is that you are thinking about those things that I ask you to think about as I shuffle the cards for you.
Those questions will be:
- Think about an incidence that happened in the past six months, those people that were involved in the incident and how they related to the incident and to each other. There are a couple of reasons why we limit it to 6 months into the past and therefore does not go more than 6 months into the future. It is not good to have this reading done more than 6 months at a time.
- Think about a question you want an answer to but please don't tell me what it is. Think of all the people involved in your question and how they relate to your question and to you.
- Think about what you wish to happen so far as your question is concerned. Again, think about all the people involved and how they related to your wishes.
Your part is done. I will deal the cards out at my end and compose the reading in an email for you. It will look something like this:
The Past Line
Ace of Pentacles
New Material Awareness
The Ace of Pentacles signifies the arrival of funds such as a gift, an inheritance, or a windfall of some kind. The money is saved or spent wisely, perhaps on a venture or to purchase a new home, depending on the adjoining cards.
Ten of Swords
Defeat, Opposition and Conflict
This card shows a victim weakened at the lowest ebb of defeat. Strong opposition and conflict with the environment often arise from self-defeating attitudes and behavior. The victim has hit bottom and faces the decision to end self-defeat.
Eight of Pentacles
Apprenticeship
New beginnings are made in the realm of career and work. The card can indicate a return to school or an opportunity to learn a new trade. The money might not be good at first, but the move is gratifying and brings contentment.
Nine of Swords
Misery Brings Paralyzing Pain
This card depicts states of anguished misery, whether real or imagined. The pain experienced is paralyzing, and the ability to function is severely compromised. The despair can be caused by guilt or feelings of inadequacy.
Seven of Wands
A Good Defense, Competition is Fierce
Consistency overcomes competition, but the competition is consistent and fierce. There is a need to hold one’s ground here with courage and determination. Integrity and strength of character eventually overcome obstacles.
XVII - The Star Reversed
Promises of New Growth
Waite specifically refers to the star illustrated on the seventeenth trump card as the “Dog Star,” which is an ancient Egyptian appellation for Sirius – the brightest star in the night sky. The star was especially important to the Egyptians, who marked time in the annual cycles of planting and harvesting by the position of Sirius. In fact, as far back as 3000 B.C., the Egyptian calendar year started on the day Sirius rose just before the sun – an event that signaled the annual flooding of the Nile. Thus, the significance of the Star in conventional tarot interpretation is renewal.
Reversed promises a new cycle of growth, but the season is not right yet. Under these circumstances, it is best to remember that delays are not denials and that the new growth will come in good time.
IXX - The Sun Reversed
Some Measure of Success is Unappreciated
A child riding a white horse under the magnificence of the sun in a garden of sunflowers evokes sentiments of innocence, purity and joy. An allusion intended by Waite in his depiction of The Sun is “the consciousness in the spirit,” which he contrasts to the dim reflected light of the moon. In the sun’s light is the full illumination of total awareness, lived with the open heart and innocence of a child.
Reversed, the Sun brings some measure of success with the questioner dissatisfied, not fully appreciating what good tidings have come. Reorganizing plans may be necessary to gain greater achievement.
General Atmosphere Line
Three of Wands Reversed
Failure of Two Entities to Form Successful Business Plan
The Three of Wands reversed indicates disappointment in the failure of two entities to form successful plans for a business project. Those involved must detail the proposal more carefully before attaining a spectacular plan that ensures success. Perhaps the building blocks to success show in the surrounding cards.
Queen of Swords
Woman Who Has Powers of Perception
The Queen of Swords is the ultimate matriarch, the strong and powerful woman who sees and speaks the truth, sometimes with a cutting candor. Not given to sentimental persuasions, she is a clear-minded thinker and endowed with considerable strength of character to fight when the fight is called for.
Page of Cups
Sensitive Child
The child represented by this card is gentle and sweet- natured. There is a deep introspective nature, a great deal of warmth, and a capacity for sensitive responses to others.
Four of Wands
Stability within the Family
The Four of Wands shows a sense of celebration associated in some way with the home and family. The reason could mean there was an addition to the family by way of birth or wedding, purchase of a home, or even an anniversary, depending on the adjoining cards.
Queen of Cups Reversed
Woman is a Passive Martyr
The woman the Queen of Cups reversed represents a passive martyr who controls others by pretense of care. Emotionalism runs high and often leads to irrational outbursts and underhanded tricks of emotional manipulation. Because her first language is feeling, she does not always think clearly.
Five of Pentacles Reversed
Slow Recovery from Conditions of Impoverishment
The Five of Pentacles reversed indicates a slow recovery from conditions of impoverishment, perhaps in the form of employment, although the employment may only be temporary. There may be a spiritual dimension to the recovery in that this person becomes empathetic to others and remains resolute in his decision to return the support he found.
Eight of Cups
Resignation and Acceptance Brings Closure
Resignation and acceptance of endings finally bring release from the sorrows of the past. This card signifies letting go and moving on after a period of despair and disappointment. It can also mean letting go of materialism and moving on to spiritualism in search of a deeper meaning in life.
Outer Influences Line
Seven of Pentacles Reversed
Someone Reevaluates His Position
The Seven of Pentacles reversed means that someone is reevaluating his position in a business deal because something is not quite right. Perhaps the business deal is not profitable, or the people involved are causing anxiety.
X - The Wheel of Fortune
Inevitable Change
The Wheel of Fortune was a favorite Renaissance motif that described changes of fortune, most particularly the fortune of courtiers who depended upon the patronage of the aristocracy for survival. The axiom of the wheel read: he who is up one day is apt to be down the next. Courtiers were very competitive. Today, the image endures as an icon for continuous change: the wheels of life are constantly turning, and change is constant.
In a reading, the wheel announces that changes of fortune are afoot. The changes are usually for the better, especially if there has been a string of bad luck in the past. Serendipity smiles here and things go smoothly, bringing good timing, good luck, and overall improvement.
Five of Swords
Hostile Deceit
Selfishness and arrogance, devoid of conscience or care, compels an individual to seek gain at another’s expense. There may be open hostility and willful cheating perpetuated through lies and trickery. This card speaks of viciousness and abuse.
IV- The Emperor
Power and Status
The Emperor sits on a massive throne set high above a river. The Emperor commands the heights and sits solid and firm in his place of power. The long white beard and long gray hair conjure images of Moses and the Biblical patriarchs decreed to rule by God’s own word. The Emperor describes traditional masculine power; he is the father, the ruler, and God’s own representative in the realm he rules. His authority is absolute and binding.
XII - The Hanged Man
A Period of Inactivity While Insight Gained
The Hanged Man is the third of the four cardinal virtues represented in the traditional tarot pack, and he signifies prudence. Prudence sometimes demands that we retrain ourselves and make necessary sacrifices, just like the man hanging on the gallows tree. He is not dead, but the restraint of hanging upside down from a tree is not the best of positions to be in; nevertheless, he endures, seemingly in a blessed state, as indicated by the halo around his head.
VI - The Lovers Reversed
The Balance between Two People is Upset
When pledges are honored, there is union, and the Lovers card signifies a joining of two primary polar forces: man and woman. The Waite-Smith design draws on traditional Biblical imagery of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, but beyond the most obvious indication of sexual unity between man and woman, this card holds a subtler and compelling metaphor about the world of opposites in which we all live. There is night and day, winter and summer, hot and cold, good and bad, yes and no, black and white, and neutrons and protons. The interplay of polar forces shapes our world at every level.
Reversed the Lovers card shows the balance between two people is upset and two opposing forces are at odds. It indicates quarrels and disputes among lovers, disharmonious conditions within the home, and possibly even imbalance within the self.
Present Line
0 - The FoolAdventures are Presented
The Fool’s journey serves as a ready metaphor for the journey of mortal life. The sun marks our time, and all paths lead to the precipice of the unknown into which all of us eventually must fall: our death. Why is the countenance on this figure’s face one of rapture?
The Fool is alive in the moment, living the glory of his life. The message reads: life is a gift that does not last forever, and the only path to follow is the path of our true heart and soul. The Fool claims his journey as his own, choosing to live at the heights of joy in respect of his true self.
Four of Cups
Rejecting Help and Discontent
The Four of Cups shows the refusal of a person to accept the help offered by others. He withdraws, discontentedly, to view what is happening around him, determined to make it on his own.
VII – Strength
Courage, Patience, Gentleness
The Strength card is one of the four cardinal virtues represented in the tarot deck. The Waite-Smith design engages the classical Renaissance personification of this virtue as a person with strength greater than the jaws of a lion.
The meaning and value of the virtue of strength are perhaps self-explanatory, but the presence of the card in reading signals the need to be courageous in the face of extraordinarily difficult circumstances or through the course of everyday life, depending on the overall situation described in the cards. Next to a court card, it shows an individual who is acting with great calm and self-restraint.
II - The High Priestess Reversed
Failure to Listen to the Inner Voice
The High Priestess is a classical feminine figure representing the gateway to the knowledge possessed by the Magician. In Judaism she is Shekinah, and Sophia to the Greeks. In the postmodern West, the High Priestess serves as a personification of hidden knowledge and intuition. She sits between two pillars, one black, representing evil, and one white, representing good, and holds a scroll that contains valuable information about both, and since she knows both, she can speak the truth.
Reversed, the High Priestess shows problems and complications arising from the failure to hear the inner voice. She describes situations in which people are in doubt and second guess themselves too much, trusting in the opinion of others more than their own gut feelings.
I - The Magician Reversed
Someone is Missing Facts
The Magician stands before a table laden with icons of the four suits of the Tarot, representing four branches of human knowledge. He is a master of this knowledge, a sage with one hand pointing to heaven and the other to earth. He is grounded and firm in the knowledge that as it is above, it is below. He knows all the teachings and can perform miracles. The Magician is a personification of knowledge and mastery.
Reversed, the Magician tells us someone is working without enough knowledge or information: ignorance. Opportunities may be missed or ventures entered into blindly without full knowledge of the facts, and in day-to-day matters, important facts may be inadvertently or deliberately withheld, causing complications and difficulties.
Six of Swords
Journey to Inner Peace
There could be a trip in store, but the journey is just as likely to be an inner journey of personal growth and discovery. Through conscious choice, there is an effort to overcome lethargy and listlessness and strike a better inner balance.
Page of Pentacles Reversed
A Immature, Rebellious Child
The Page of Pentacles reversed reveals a child whose immaturity is expressed through rebelliousness, scattered energy, and unreasonable actions.
Possibilities for the Future Line
King of Wands
Calm and Detached Man
The man represented by this card is dignified, clever, and enterprising. He is the consummate rationalist, inclined to emotional detachment. His intentions are honorable, and his judgment is sound.
XX – Judgement Reversed
Inability to Be Accountable
The Judgement card is a visual depiction of events described in the New Testament book of Revelation. These events concern the day of final judgment before the end of the world, as envisioned by John, who saw “the seas gave up its dead”; and indeed, the dead are seen rising from the sea in background of Waite’s design of this card. He is faithful to the Biblical description of the final judgment, but he contends that its meaning lies in realms far beyond literal Biblical interpretation.
Reversed, shows difficulties arising from inability to be accountable for the consequences of one’s own actions. Failure to take responsibility and own one’s own problems results in conflict and losses.
XIV – Temperance
Moderation and Balance
Temperance is the fourth card of the cardinal virtue set included in the parade of trumps. The iconography is highly traditional, showing a figure mixing water with wine for sobriety. However, sobriety has meanings that go beyond the commonplace usage of the term denoting not drunk. A great many choices and actions in life demand clear thinking and a sober respect for the gravity of the matter. Sobriety means awake and aware.
This card will show clear thinking, modesty, and moderation in a reading. It also suggests balance, carefulness, and calm. There is a right blend of emotion and intellect, leading to sober, thoughtful, and rational choices.
King of Cups
Man Who is a Philanthropist
Here is a man who cares and is emotionally engaged in his world through compassion and human service, possibly a deeply spiritual or religious man. He seeks to contribute to the greater good and is guided by conscience and feeling.
XXI - The World
Reaping Rewards
The image on this card is also Biblical in origin, denoting the restoration of the world to the state of perfection lost by the fall of Adam and Eve. It is “a story of the past,” Waite writes, a time “when all was declared to be good, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy”. In his commentary on the card, he hints that perfection has dwelled in the world all along, “unchanged – and indeed unchangeable”. It is not in the material world, he says but in the “consciousness of Divine Vision”, implying, perhaps, that it is through expanded consciousness that we come to know what we truly need to live well in the glory of the world.
The World card on the table indicates peak experiences of attainment and satisfaction. Important goals are reached, personal affairs are brought into balance and the questioner feels good about himself or herself.
Four of Wands Reversed
Finding Unhealthy Sanctuary at Home
The Four of Wands reversed shows the act of finding sanctuary at home, where one finds it easy to stay within limitations set by our physical energy. The lethargy found attached to this card makes it difficult to break out of demoralized states, and the willingness to reach out to others or accept help impossible.
The Future Line
Five of Cups Reversed
Sense of Loss is Passing, Return of Hope
The Five of Cups shows a sense of loss passing and the return of hope through reconciliation and restoration of what previously existed. Considerable courage is used and will is summoned to close wounds.
Knight of Pentacles Reversed
Youth Who Needs to Be More Consistent in Material Well Being
The Knight of Pentacles reversed highlights the need for youth to have greater practicality and consistency in establishing material well-being. Youthful immaturity is expressed as carelessness.
XI - Justice
Justice and Balance
Waite engages the familiar personification of justice as a woman who balances, on one hand, the sword of swift retribution and, on the other, the scales of equity. The only difference between this design and the classical motif is that Lady Justina is not blindfolded. She has eyes to see what truth is and what is just.
Justice shows a favorable outcome in some manner of contention, perhaps a legal issue, and justice has been served. It can also indicate equilibrium and balanced conditions, good judgment, and fair- mindedness.
VII- The Chariot
Movement, Change and Conflict
The Chariot is the most ancient of vehicles, and all the great warriors of mythology gallantly rode them. The Chariot was forged for war; it is a war machine, and its rider is a General of war. The Waite-Smith design incorporates a great many arcane symbolisms, including the two sphinxes that pull the Chariot. These sphinxes are a polar pair, one black and white, and suggest that the commander victoriously commands power over two opposing forces.
The Chariot signifies conquest in the day-to-day battles of life. There is harnessed control and the ability to subdue two opposing forces. The Chariot shows winners in the day-to-day skirmishes of life. Travel may be an issue.
XVIII - The Moon
Confusion, Muddles, Deception
Just as the light of the moon is but a dim reflection of the brilliance of the sun, our own thoughts and feelings often amount to little more than a confused and blurred reflection of what we imagine is the truth. Sometimes, we cannot see things clearly at all, and like the hound and the wolf that bay at the moon, we find ourselves driven by impulses, thoughts, and feelings we barely understand. Like the tides of the ocean ruled by the moon, these feelings rise and engulf us in confusion, apprehension, and dark fears.
The Moon describes intense inner struggles, confusion, doubt, and difficulty making sense of one’s own compulsive thoughts and feelings. There can be unwarranted fear, anger, and inexplicable outbursts of raw and savage emotion. The tide of the unconscious is rising, and whatever past issues not yet dealt honestly with within the self will resurface vigorously to confound and confuse. This card denotes messy, unclear, and uncertain thoughts and feelings and deception, either of the self or by another.
Nine of Wands Reversed
Failure to Protect and Defend Oneself
The Nine of Wands reversed indicates a failure to protect and defend oneself against adversity and attack. At best, this card shows vulnerability.
Ace of Wands
New Enterprises and Fresh Ideas
A powerful creative force is manifest in this card, signaling fresh starts and new ideas. Energy and effort devoted to launching new projects and creating new avenues of personal expression will be successful.
My Interpretation:
The Past Line
You said that recently you received some sort of money. This came at a time that you needed it desperately. This came with strong opposition and conflicts but worked itself out. I can’t see anyone that hit rock bottom but whoever this was, perhaps you, made the decision to end self-defeat. New beginnings are made in a project, perhaps the learning of a new trade. The money was not good but you are experienced satisfaction. There seem to be moments though that you are almost paralyzed with fear and you feel that things will not go right to the point that your ability to function was severely compromised. Then you pull yourself up and put on a good defense although competition is fierce. What I am saying is one minute you are up, the next down and this is the main theme of the past line. Growth will come in good time, and you must remember to all appreciate the small strides you are making. Reorganizing your plans what you should be working on now.
The General Atmosphere Line
Generally, you are disappointed in the failure of two entities to form successful plans for a business project or a deal of some sort. You must detail the plan more carefully before you attain a spectacular plan for a business project. A Queen in this line is facing a Page, a sensitive child and appears to be giving advice. The child is facing the Queen and is listening. This is bringing much stability within the family. There is a woman who pretends to care but if really a passive martyr and she can be controlling. She will try to emotionally manipulate you. I get the feeling that there is some sort of addition made to your family and she wants to control this situation. I think that you were resolved to help this woman but you had to let her go as she was not helping you in your goals. You have moved on to continue your spiritual growth.
Outer Influences Line
The people in this line you may or may not know but they are doing things you don’t know about. I can see that there is an abundance of Major Arcana in this line which means that someone is making decisions that you don’t know about but will at some point affect how you make your decisions. Someone reevaluates their position where a business deal is concerned. Changes to your outer world are inevitable and you may not be aware of those changes. You are not in possession of all the facts. Someone is trying to get away with something that is not theirs. There are lies and deception involved. There may also be a good man involved, and his authority will be absolute and binding. If could be a Judge who is aware of something that you don’t know. He seems to be resting right now keeping this knowledge to use at the right time. This has something to do with Lovers and the imbalance between them. Opposing forces is affecting their relationship. You will not find yourself in the Outer Influences Line so these are other people.
The Present Line
There is an abundance of Major Arcana in the Present Line which means that someone is making a decision that will affect how you make yours. It may be the Man in the Outer Influences Line but you are not aware of his decisions yet. The first card in the present line is The Fool. Adventures are presented. You know that life is short and that the only worthy life is an honest life. Remain true to yourself. Know that there is help being offered by others and you might want to rethink the offer. If you remain withdrawn, you will suffer a little more than if you accept their help. You will need to be courageous in life now. Your inner strength will see you through anything right now. Rely on your intuition. What you feel might be going on is exactly correct although I dare say you did not put it all in the cards for me to see, you know what it is. Stop second guessing yourself. You are not aware of all the facts so keep your mind open and listen to your intuition. There soon could be travel and it might be over water. You may be traveling to see a child, who is immature and rebellious.
Possibilities for the Future Line
The Possibilities for the Future Line contains an abundance of Major Arcana, which means that the decisions I spoke of earlier still won’t be made soon. There is a man present who, although he is somewhat detached, has sound judgment. This could be the man from the Outer Influences line. I think that someone will have trouble being accountable. The Queen of Pentacles on the other side of the reversed Judgement card shows she thinks he won’t be accountable. There will be a need in this instance for patience and remained balanced, careful and calm. Watch for a man who is deeply spiritual who will come into your life. He will be there to help you. He will help to bring your personal affairs into balance and help you to feel good about yourself. He will help you to get out and stop hiding at home.
The Future Line
There are still an abundance of Major Arcana in this lines which shows that decisions have not been made by and someone that will affect the way you make yours going forward. It has something to do with either a youth that needs to be more practical and consistence in establishing material well being. He needs to be less careless. Justice will prevail going forward. Travel may be an issue here and an ability to subdue two opposing forces. Beware of what secrets are in the shadows during the near future. There are still things that you need to know about before you make your decisions. Be prepared to protect and defend yourself against adversity. If you do there will be new growth, a fresh start. You will have a great deal of energy to launch new projects and all avenues of person expression will be successful.
